Tired of traffic congestion?

The City of Salem is gathering input on project ideas for streets, sidewalks, and parks improvements through February to include in Salem City Council’s consideration of a $300 million infrastructure bond package for November 2022. You, too, can add your ideas: https://www.cityofsalem.net/Pages/salem-infrastructure-bond.aspx

The City Council is considering an infrastructure bond measure for the November 2022 ballot that would provide up to $300 million in projects – without an increase to the City’s tax rate for bonds. The most urgent need is replacement of the City’s fire trucks and equipment.  Following the investment in fire protection, project categories are streets and sidewalks; parks and recreation facilities; affordable housing and shelter; and public facilities and information technology infrastructure.  Many of these priority spending areas will be defined through community engagement.

This is where we need to Implement Marine Drive which connects from Glen Creek to Riverbend Rd. It would allow a north/south alternative to Wallace Rd. Designed in 1995 with the zoning and placements of all the apartments, it starts as you come off the bridge into West Salem, turning right on what is now the walking trail to the railroad bridge, and then it turns north between the Courthouse and the park. It would work just like Front Street with downtown. If you do not need to stop in West Salem, you can bypass the congestion, and just head north. Think of the time you would save by not sitting in traffic congestion on Wallace!
